When I first moved to Chicago, Jon and I worked across the street from Sears Tower. The following is a picture taken from the new skyledge. The white building? That's where we worked on the 34th floor in a corner office with that same view in the skyledge pictures. That's the exact place where Jon and I met for the first time.

Jon and I have many memories of that time together. We were workaholics then (reformed now). Jon and I were the last ones in the office when a blizzard was hitting downtown. We spent one fourth of July working, watching fireworks out the window. Beth's recent post about her life before kids made me realize I want to write more about my life before kids here.
One big memory I have of working in that building is the red X in that picture. That's where I was standing when I heard about the Twin Towers, right as we were evacuating downtown Chicago with fear that Sears Tower was on the list.
And one of my favorite memories is the red ZZZ. In the summer, we often ate lunch sitting in that courtyard. We would lay in the grass and look all the way up to the top of Sears Tower. One particularly sunny warm day, we both fell asleep and took an hourlong nap in the middle of the work day. And it was GLORIOUS.

Oh, now I'm feeling very nostalgic for Chicago. I used to live in the Fisher Building, next door to the HW Library. On September 11, I happened to look out the window while blow drying my hair and noticed all of the cars pouring out of the parking decks. I turned on the television just as the second tower was hit.
What a great idea, to write about life before kids. I love this glimpse into yours.
Those glass balconies scare me though. I get a little giddy/nauseous at just the thought of them.
Your post beat the renaming ceremony by a couple of weeks. "Sears Tower" who??
